I've searched old threads and googled other pages and failed to find an answer...does anyone know what is going on on the west side of 485, where there seems to be exit ramps cut into the dirt but no exit?

This is between the exit to 160/Berewick and the exit to the CLT airport if you're headed north. The road on the overpass at the "exit" is NC 1148, but its also very near the western terminus of West Blvd.

Looking at the satellite photos, it appears that the beginnings of concrete ramps were built and the right-of-way cleared, but now there is nothing there. Putting in an exit+extension to West Blvd would certainly help out the folks working at the airport or commuting to the Coliseum area from the south.

I think this may have been put in place for the proposed Garden Parkway Toll Road.

West Boulevard will be extended west to this interchange. The contract has been awarded. Construction should start in early 2010 and be completed in late 2010. The airport has been relocating roads in this area like crazy to make way for the new runway.

Construction Update (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Airport/Construction+Update+.htm - broken link)

Garrison Road currently goes over the overpass but dead ends just to the west.

The Planned Garden Parkway will extend from I-85 west of Gastonia through southern Gaston County and end at this interchange. Since the Garden Parkway will be a major limited access road, when it's built (if it's built) this interchange will need to be redesigned and enlarged significantly.

Where can I go to find out where the new extension of Route 485 will go through Huntersville. I am planning a purchase of property in that area and cannot get a clear map, firm info where exactly it will go through Huntersville, NC. Can anyone give some advice ?

According to the Observer, a contract has been awarded to "build" a new interchange where West Blvd is being extended to I-485. This sounds odd since there already is an interchange there. "Complete" would have been a more appropriate word to use.
