There were 56 murders last year. That is the lowest number in 21 years. Murders are down nationwide.

12 cases remain open. Here is a map with details. Map of Charlotte murders in 2009

I have wondered why murders are down. Of course, I hope that is an on-going trend! But I have wondered why.

I had been thinking there was a correlation with gun ownership (and concealed carry permits). Nice article - really appreciate your sharing that.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for posting this link!

An don't forget the ~200% increase in conceal carry permits issued in 2009 for Mecklenburg County...

Just with a quick glance I have found a couple that were victims shooting and killing the criminals trying to rob them. I'd say that definitely adds to the arguement made by Metallisteve.

Just boggles me...flat out dumbfounds me...that people will still make arguments against gun ownership with pure numbers like this. It's like we can't win...we do good and put up nice numbers, yet there are still attacks and undermining plots to disarm folks. I don't get it.

Sorry...don't mean to veer us too far off course...

My favorite saying of all time.

Sure you can take my gun.... Out of my cold dead hands!
