I AM really proud of this kid.

She came from a poor, welfare home but was brought up in church and learned what a gift for singing she had there. She has had much to overcome, including being a high school dropout because she had a baby as a teen, but she is doing it. Your comments are just rude and uncalled for.

She was also raped when she was in 9th grade. She really has overcome a lot. As xray42 said, a true rags to riches story.

I thought CMS had a special school for teenagers with children.

Yea I have seen the show...I never really was into her.

But when I watched her show I saw how torn apart her family situation is especially with that one young brother who was talking about how fantasia changed since Idol and then mid sentence was like Roach!! Go get the Fogger for me man....

So sad..I pray her family life improves. I think she is trying...I didn't know she was evicted. I have read some where that she is seeing a married man now.

After that I saw her on BET's Gospel show praising Jesus....God bless her.

We Charlotte and NC natives are just so proud of her. I remember back when her Idol season was over they did a news story on her. The story focused on an ignorant girl from NC that could not read.

I remember hearing her sing, but I'm not a big follower of American Idol so I missed the part that she was from NC.

I don't remember it standing out though, so my guess is it was not about giving NC a bad rep for lack of education but more about a person who made it through school not being able to read who just happened to be from NC. She could have been from anywhere since literacy (lack of) is unfortunately a national issue.
