Looking for a bar/venue in Charlotte that offers live blues music. I'm looking for recommendations for a place that regulararly hosts bands, could be well known or getting good and will be well known. (not a place that calls themselves a blues bar and the band plays classic rock) Thank-you!

I've not yet been here, but I see it all the time and want to go (if that counts)!

I just saw the other day on the way home there is a Jazz club in the University area. I have never been there or know nothing about it, but it's off of Harris near N. Tryon.

The Double Door is a blues club, but there's more than "the band" - they host a variety of bands through the week. Mostly blues, some classic rock, jam bands - this past Saturday, they had a world fusion band who were REALLY fun: they played salsa, hiphop & reggae. So check which band is playing before you go.

A few years ago (OK - almost 30!), Eric Clapton showed up there to play after his concert at the coliseum. The Double Door has hosted Stevie Ray Vaughn, Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy, Pinetop Perkins... it's worth a visit to soak in that atmosphere, and see the pictures on the walls.

You might want to join the Charlotte Blues Society to meet other folks who can tell you about the local scene! (There's a problem with their site - if you get the page that has HOLD after home, just delete the word HOLD from the web address)

AFAIK, this place closed 6+ months ago.....and from my experience you aren't missing anything - it was more like Shane's Rib Shack than anything else.

The Charlotte Folk Society also frequently hosts blues performers, sometimes in house concerts or small concerts at CPCC. This Friday (Feb. 12), there's a show by master bluesman John Dee Holeman at the Great Aunt Stella Center. (details at the link)
