It's been asked a lot- and I'm sure it will be asked many more times...

If anyone tells you that there is no problem with your choice, they are lying. I have lived here for three years, My children are mixed. I work every day and just had my second child graduate high school. Being that they are mixed, they don't have the "white" hair or skin nor do they have the "black" hair or skin. But they are different so I was told. Since the time we have lived here, we have been called names, been harassed by the police etc. There is no such thing as southern hospitality and you can really ask any person who is from the north. I cannot have a picture of my children in public view at my job, it is ridiculous. Please consider other places. It may be the melting pot, but the people who have been here forever will not change and they instill these things into their kids and grandkids. I always felt say what you mean, say how you feel. As for down here, people laugh and smile in your face, and do other things behind your back. It's not every single person don't get me wrong, but it's enough to make you say goodbye to the south!

This isn't true "en masse". The are lots of interracial couples, kids, etc. all over the place that are fine in this area. The picture you painted may have been your experience (unfortunately) but MANY people who have more than one ethnic background in their makeup are doing fine.

He was alone when he visited though and is not sure if people will react when I'm with him. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
Hey Kmway, yes, this is at least the 80th time this question has been asked. However, the question I hear when I read it is 'Will Charlotte, NC give me a free pass on life?' And the clear answer is a resounding NO! Life is not easy. But the answer isn't really that simple......nor is the question.
I read "he.....is not sure if people will react when I'm with him." and what I hear is an indication of discomfort with a major life decision. If you aren't comfortable with who you are,....how can you expect others to be comfortable with what you are? And, I don't mean just the color of ones skin.
For me, an awareness came when a difficult decision had to be made and a lifelong friend, (a fellow Marine, Stanford graduate, Hawaiian), said something very profound and really quite simple.........'Ya gotta do what fits yer skin'. Once again, not about color or any other physical characteristic.....it had to do with my own comfort level.
Sweetnlove, if you and your fiancee are confident and comfortable, then you'll be very welcomed in Charlotte. If there is any discomfort that would cause you to expect and/or look for difficulty, (as in the asking of this question), then I might rethink the major decision......and I'm not talking about just moving to X-(place name of city here).
Ultimately, should you decide to move to Charlotte, Welcome!! And let me know when you get here......my wife and I will buy breakfast for you and your fiancee at the Big Dog Cafe in Waxhaw!

Default glad someone else asked

I was going to create a thread but thankfully I used the search function . Anyway, I am a black male looking to move to Charlotte and though I do not date exclusively interracially (I am an equal opportunity lover), I would like to know first of all how open the women are of all races, black included, to dating black men in Charlotte and more importantly, if I will have any problems if I end up dating someone that is of another race and we are out. Is it common enough to where people don't look twice or is there still a "stigma" to interracial dating in Charlotte?

Thanks for all sincere replies!
