They are advertising $55/mo for home + mobile internet. I'm hoping to talk to someone who's actually used it before trusting my business to someone I've never heard of.

Thoughts?

I have a friend that used to work for Clear and it is actually owned by Time Warner. So...it is the same service as time warner just a different name so they can dominate the market

We got internet service with them when they were clearwire. They were the worst to do business with. We cancelled with them and they continued to charge us for several months. Basically stealing money from us. We reported them to the BBB as they were so bad and completely unethical.

Actually Time Warner only owns 4.5% of Clearwire. It simply resells CLEAR 4G under its brand; so do Comcast and Sprint. I tried out CLEAR 4G home service for a month and had high hopes. My experience was as follows:

- Unstable and mostly extremely slow speeds.
- Frequent outages.
- Too many outages around midnight to make it a random.
- Poor customer service and problems getting setup on the right plan.
- Poor technical support.
- Either unable or unwilling to tell you what tower you're connecting to.
- Had to explain what area I lived in each time I called so they could see what towers I was near.
- Ultimately could not explain why my speeds were so slow even though I had good radio signal strength. Know it wasn't a problem on my side because I didn't cancel Road Runner and could do comparisons.
- Were unwilling to send a tech to my home
- I had more information than support because the WiMAX modems they send you are configured with the default password!

It's important to note that my modem lights stayed between 4 and 5 out of 5 lights. I live in a 3 story town home and my modem was in the attic! I also live within 2 miles of 2 of their towers.

I never had performance problems with Road Runner but their rate increases caused me to jump ship. When I got rid of CLEAR I moved on to AT&T DSL and also haven't had issues with it.

Clear internet is THE WORST! Heaven help you if it goes down because their staff is USELESS! I called to tell them that my internet was down and that, after having the same unit for three years, perhaps it was outdated and the modem should be upgraded. After wasting my Saturday afternoon on the phone with two people (who both spoke terrible English) they finally told me that, indeed, my system may need to be upgraded-- and it could be if I would pay $10 in shipping to have the new system sent to me! What? Why should I pay extra to have the service that I already pay you $55/month for? I ended up canceling my service. Of course I could not be refunded for next month's bill that I had already paid, so essentially I'm stuck paying for a service that won't work.
