I'm moving to Charlotte and would like to know haw far people think is too far. What city? I work form 6:00am-2:00pm downtown. I don't mind driving as long as I'm moving.

Looking on the North and East/South East Side of Town. Want to have a couple of acres and no HOA.

Thanks.

Do you need schools & what's your price range?

Working those hours your commute will be smooth sailing most of the time no matter where you live (as long as there are no big accidents or extremely bad weather). I'd highly suggest you look at the area on the east where Mecklenburg/Cabarrus and Union counties kind of all meet - that's a really nice rural area - if countryside is what you are after. In particular, I like Unionville and Midland.

But if you are just looking to rent an apartment or a house in a neighborhood you can live anywhere within the city limits and have a great commute at those travel times.

Price range is 300,000 - 350,000. Schools are not a big deal. We homeschool and want to try more rural living this time around.

I enjoy driving, especially out in the countryside, so a long commute wouldn't bother me. On the other hand, I have a friend who lives 20 miles from anything out in Monroe. She really has to consider her shopping, since she can't just run to (any) store on a whim. It's an hour round trip to buy anything, except a live chicken from one of the local farms. As was said above, traffic shouldn't be an issue for you, but I would consider the route you take so you can run your errands on the way home from work.

Check in Gaston County (There's some nice houses in South Gastonia, but they won't have the land that you want) & SW Lincoln County.

I would suggest searching in Union, Cabarrus, Lincoln and Iredell Counties.
If you have to be in town at 6 am, then you're leaving at 5 or a little after
and there is virtually no one on the interstates that early. Same with the return commute.
The outlying counties will offer you a little more in terms of homes with acreage.
Also, the taxes will be less than Mecklenburg. Good luck in your search!
