The only problem w/the HOF is the numbers/attendance they are projecting. They are projecting 400K visitors annually. That is roughly more than the Football and basketball HOF's combined....unfortunately they are living in dreamland.
If they don't get the attendance they are projecting, it becomes impossible to keep the place fresh as you need it to be, thus the only way to get the money (to pay NASCAR) is to raise local taxes....
Well, let's all just go once a year and then we will get many more than 400K visitors and no raised taxes, lol.

Taxes usually go up in any area that causes more demand but it also creates more jobs for employees to service those extra needs

Jack, didn't they derive the projection numbers from the Country Music and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame? Each has around 400,000 in annual attendance. I suppose one could make the argument that Nascar as a theme is not as popular as either of those, but all things considered I understand why they would use those two as a reference and not the HOF's for football and basketball which are not as nice. And with that comparison being considering I wouldn't say they exaggerated their projection.
I think this place is going to be very successful. After going to the Coca Cola museum in Atlanta I'm glad Charlotte finally has something similar, which is a fun interactive unique attraction you'll only find in one place.
Has anyone been that knows rather this place has guided tours, or if you just walk around yourself?
But would you go to the Coke museum more than one time? I think that's going to be the problem. People aren't going to go more than once.
All you have to do is look at the numbers for sponsorship revenue to see where this is going. Its roughly 1/5th of what they projected which is dreadful....not 20% under projections, 20% OF projections....
Will it get better? I think there's a snowball's chance in hell, but hey I'm just a guy behind a keyboard....
Its not talked about obviously, but my point is if it was the Cultural Arts HOF or Something else that isn't such a sensitive topic, many would have the pitchforks out already.....
Race cars and memorabilia is nothing more than various company logos
You cant ask for a better way to advertise.
companies if they can get by not paying for these ad spots
that is essentially what they are doing.

We all know there's a recession. What I don't understand and maybe someone smarter can explain to me is why would you make such rosy predictions when you know they are going to fall way short?
They budgeted for 831,000 people in the first year. Then they budgeted approx 400K the following years.
Attendance "they say" was 4500 for the grand opening and 5,500 for the next 5 days. And that's with help from an NRA convention. if you do the math, they'd be lucky to do 400,000 the first year.....
It will only be a matter of time before they are in serious do-do....
But that's Jack's point and that was my point way, way back. It's a great way to advertise and yet they have no sponsors. His other point regarding if this was an arts/cultural destination the whole region would be up in arms is a very valid one. As I've said from the beginning, I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.

I absolutely would go back. And would take others with me. The Coke museum had a lot of fun interactive areas and I understand the Nascar HOF has the same. Places like that are entertaining. I’d put them more in the category of an amusement park than a history museum. People don’t say they’re not going to go back to Carowinds simply because they’ve rode all the rollercoasters once.
And again Jack, the numbers they used are similar to those for the Country Music and Rock & Roll places. They each did around 800,000 the first year and leveled off to around 400,000 thereafter. There’s really not much of a point of reference for this type of thing, so I really don’t see how you can fault them for using those as a guide.
