I am in the process of moving to the area and am looking to make contact with any one that may have a connection in the banking industry. I am also looking for some banking recruiters to touch base with. I have 15 years experience in commerical lending operations with an international bank based in NYC. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

As one that works for one of the major banks in the area, I would strongly recommend that you get a permanent job offer prior to moving here. The bank that I work at is only hiring temps or contractors and they disappear weekly.

Karen, I work in the commercial lending area on the legal side and I will tell you to think about becoming contractor. I worked on both the banking side for 13 years, and switch to the legal side, the last three, when I moved here from NYC. The market is seeing a bounce back, but not one in which they are hiring. Good luck and find a good headhunter, it will be difficult.

PLEASE don't move without a job if you need one to live and eat!
Banking has taken a major hit here the last 18 months and nowadays they seem to only be hiring for six month contract positions. Best of luck though.

This is like bringing a bucket of sand to the beach to sell for some money. As the others have said, don't come here unless you have a job lined up first.

Well if she needs a job before hand who would y'all recommend recruiter-wise to help her find a position?

Your best bet for networking is to try LinkedIn. It will be much more targeted than a general message board like this. On LinkedIn, you should be able to reach out to financial recruiters as well as hiring managers.

As Barking said, she is looking for a job, so let's see if we can help. And to those who think Banks aren't hiring .. um wrong. Your best options are Fifth/Third, BB&T and Bank of America. Wells has some hiring but right now is putting much new into Charlotte. All 4 don't do as much with recruiters especially for common positions, your best best is their Websites.

There's a company called Fieldglass that does a lot of the contract hiring for Bank of America and Wachovia. But the LinkedIn idea is a good one too. Bank of America is hiring full time employees too. Don't believe all of the doom and gloom you hear. There haven't been mass layoffs there in over 18 months and not at Wachovia since this past January. Despite everything you read and hear, things are stabilizing and companies are ready to move forward.
