"Race" traffic should not be an issue - regular traffic however, will be. - I'd use 485 and go all the way around then you should have much time on 77

Get there early and shop at Birkdale for a while first. Friday traffic on 77N is always horrible.

If you're worried about traffic, get of at exit 16B Sunset Road and turn right onto Beatties Ford (second light). You can take that right to Sam Furr (73) and then to Birkdale area. That way you avoid the horrible 77/73 intersection and the traffic starting right after exit 18.

I agree- and the 485 wouldn't help much anyway as the traffic builds up on I77 right after the 485 joins when 77 goes from 4 lanes down to 2 just after that.
Traffic on I77 is always worst around Huntersville. Too much traffic coming on and not enough lanes.

Whilst on subject of race traffic (or not!) what would be the best time and route to take to the race on Sunday.

We're in Mooresville and I was thinking
HWY3
right on Odell School
left on Poplar tent, over the top of the 85, then first right onto Pitt School.

Is it best to try and stay on the smaller roads or jsut go for 85 and then Bruton Smith?

Sometime later on Sunday morning, early in the afternoon Bruton Smith would be a clusterf**k. Always stick with the small roads

My recommendation, this is what I do daily.

Its beginning of the weekend race traffic on Friday in Huntersville will not be a big issue avoid
77 it will be a parking lot. Take the back roads if your coming from Uptown take
Beatties Ford Road to highway 73

I agree. Try Beatties fro to Hwy73 or get off 77 at Harris and go to Mt. Holly Huntersville Rd. Then from there you can cut through Huntersville and up to Birkdale.

The other option? Just leave early and inch your way along 77 like many others do. It takes long...but not THAT long.
