Three Charlotte men have agreed to plead guilty after taking $2.4 million
from clients of their bankrupt real-estate-closing firm.
Jerry Holmes and Scott Pace, owners of The Settlement Source,
face 10 years in prison, $500,000 fines and forfeiture of money and property gained in the scheme,
while Steven Wray, the company's director of finance and administration,
faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Some of that money was spent on trips that York County Councilman Paul Lindemann took with Brandenburg and Richards, including a trip to Miami and one to Atlantic City. But Lindemann, paid to recruit business for the firm, said he didn't know at the time that the money came from escrow payments.
"I feel bad that they were spending other people's money," Lindemann said.
