I'll try to keep this short...
I just got a new job and the office is by University (where 85 intersects WT Harris). I have lived in Boston my whole life and will be in Charlotte within 1 month. Just looking to rent a 1 or 2 bedroom apt for 6 months to get a feel for the area.

What areas would you suggest for a decent commute (nothing over 30 min one way) to a 27 year old couple?

The 2 areas I am considering are: Myers Park/Dilworth or North Charlotte (by 77/Northlake Mall).

Any thoughts on those areas or any suggestions for a different place altogether?
After 5 years of work in Boston I'm so sick of the cramped city/long commute/public transit lifestyle, so I wasn't necessarily looking downtown. I just want an easy city to get around.

Any info is much appreciated!!

Well you won't have to worry about public transit at any rate. I'd say if you're working in the University area that living out that way would be a good move. Where in Boston were you?

Lived in Walpole (next to Foxboro). Worked by North Station (across from TD Garden).
I just don't want to rent right next to University and get in a complex with college kids.

There are plenty of complexes in that area. (look west on Harris towards 77) Most are too expensive for the college kids. The college kids usually hang out closer to the university; there are many apt. complexes that cater to them alone.

You may even find a house to rent in this area. The rental market is booming right now.

I would recommend Myers Park/Dilworth if you're not opposed to a commute of 15 - 30 minutes. You'll pay a little more in that area but you'll be more centrally located within the city for easy access. I work in the university area and after living here for a few years I've decided I'll never move north of Dilworth so I am slightly biased

I agree with J-Hawk. I work at the university but decided to live South of the city because its so much nicer (in my opinion). You should check out both areas and make the decision for yourself. You could also live uptown which might be fun for for awhile. Wish I did that before we bought our house.

There are lots of nice apartment complexes in the University area. There are also condos that you might could find to rent in several neighborhoods.

When looking for an apartment complex recently, and since I work in the University area, one of my top considerations was Long Creek Club, which is right off of W WT-Harris near Northlake Mall. They're brand new and really nice.

try Berkeley Place in the university area which is about 3-5 minutes away from your work.
it is a family complex and i personally never experienced any college kids craziness.
the rent is about $670 for a one bedroom apartment.
(the rent rate fluctuates constitutionally so i recommend u to call and ask for the current rates)
i have been living there for a year and I already renewed my lease
