Hey I'll try to make my question short. Me and my fiance are looking to move to Charlotte, NC in the next year. We have problems being bi racial here in NYC, he is black and I am hispanic but often mistaken to be white. Our daughter looks mixed but is light skinned. I was wondering if it would be worse moving to Charlotte, also if someone can tell me what area of Charlotte is best to raise our 1 year old daughter, taking into account crime rate and schooling, Ive done research but all its done is left me confused lol. we're looking for houses between 200k and 600k. And sorry to ask so much but also if anyone knows which areas are also close to city like areas, i want a quiet neighborhood but I want to know that Im not too far from shopping, hospitals etc. Thank you in advance!!

Between 200 and 600k!! WOW - there's no way to give you direction based on that type of pricing. Imagine someone in NYC looking between 600k and 1.8M.

I also can't imagine how it's possible to have issues in NYC as bi-racial. Because if you are having these issues in arguably the diversity capital of the world, there's not much to be done. Are you sure these issues you're running into are because you're a bi-racial couple?

200k - 600k is a big range. We need more information to help better. How far is "not too far" 5 minutes? 30 minutes? What are you looking for?

Quote:
How many BR's, Baths, square feet, lot size, etc, do you need? Pets? SFH, TH, Condo, mobile home? In-town, rural, college town, military town, mountains? Schools for children? Gated community, golf course community, active senior community? Do you need to stable a horse? Is there an RV or boat trailer to consider?
Do you know where your job(s) will be? How far are you willing to commute?

Aah Sorry, I should have been more specific, houses that I like seem to be in the 430k to 600k area, as for the biracial issue in nyc, its the neighborhood my fiance grew up in that has the problem with him not dating women of his color, NYC is very diverse but like anywhere but there is always hate in some places. We have no pets, looking to move into a single family home, 4 bedrrooms, 2 bath or more, nice pre k schools/elementary schools. Distance to his job is not an issue for him with his trade in carpentry/plumbing, but I have my r.m.a in medical assisting, and am about to get my certificate in diagnostic ultrasound, also i would like to be no more than an hour away from a city area, thanks everyone.

Just FYI HeavenSkye, coming to Charlotte without a job already in place is a very dangerous thing to do. Our unemployment is very high and since the recession building starts are way down. I'm concerned your guy would really struggle to find work.

Oh wow, I didn't know that, thankfully his brother lives in Georgia and has his own business, one being near Charlotte and is offering him a job, so he is secure, but now I am scared for myself!! I will start looking into jobs now, so I won't be walking in blind thank you!!

I agree with a previous response to question why you and your fiance would have racial problems in NYC since NYC is one of the most diverse places to live in since almost everyone there is of a mixed race. It sounds like your fiance's women neighbors may have a "hater" issue and wants him to be attracted to them.
In regards to employment, I have a relative who's relocated Charlotte from NY since 2007. She's currently unemployed, her unemployment has run out. She's been without work for a year now. She's a licensed Medical Biller/Coding specialist. I often help her in submitting her resume to companies via internet since she's unable to do it herself since she doesn't have a computer. The point I'm making to you is to NOT go to Charlotte without landing secure employment. It would be terrible to jump into a situation without proper footing. BTW, most utility companies in the Charlotte area such as Duke power requires a customer to make a deposit of at least $100 in order to turn on any lights. Unlike here in NY you can just call Con Ed in which a deposit isn't required. Water is also required to be paid, cable, etc... If you are going to school to become an ultrasound technician, I will assume you may have a student loan to pay to add onto the list of the other bills I mentioned.
I wish you both the best and please do the proper research.

I agree with the above posts...I can't understand how you would have issues in NYC as a bi-racial couple. I am puerto-rican and my kids father is black and I was born and raised in the Bronx. We never had any problems with anyone...as a matter of fact..I knew many other bi-racial couples in NYC and none had problems their relationship. Anyhow, about the job market - it is very bad. I just moved down less than 2 years ago and I was very lucky to have landed a job just in time..I would not have moved down here if I didn't already have a job. Actually a neighbor of mine moved down from Long Island and was here for about a year and had to move back to NY because she couldn't find anything at all. So, yes, I would definitely try to find something before coming down here...unless, of course, your husband makes enough to support you both. Good luck!
