My wife and I are coming down to Charlottesville for a VA teachers job fair in December. The job fair is from 3-6 pm, so we were planning on driving down from NY early in the morning getting to Charlottesville about 1 and getting into room for a quick shower and dressed before early dinner and off to the job fair. Then spend then night and drive back to NY the next morning.

The job fair is at the Doubletree Hotel, but we don't want to spend their prices, and really don't need to stay there, so we're looking for somewhere cheaper. Anyone know of any local motels that are cheap and decent (i.e. CLEAN)?

We got iced in once headed back to Lynchburg and stayed overnight at a Courtyard by Marriott close to Fashion Square Mall. It was clean and cheap. But I guess "cheap" is relative. Maybe if you gave a price range, people could be more specific.

Default Our Price Range

We'd like to stay under $65 if possible. I think we could drive down and back in one day, with splitting the driving, but my wife wants to be able to shower and dress for the job fair. We are both looking for jobs, and money is tight, and being so close to Christmas, we want to do this trip on the cheap.

There is a Super 8 on Greenbrier Dr. at the rt 29 intersection. That might be cheap. Not sure how clean it would be since I've never had to stay there. I would definitely want to stay on that side of town though since traffic can slow you down if you stay closer to downtown. It takes me at least 20 minutes to get from downtown to the Doubletree Hotel area. So you might want to factor that in too.

You could also get on Orbitz, Priceline or any of those hotel sites and look up prices and ratings, and then factor in drivetimes. Good luck!

The Days Inn at the intersection of U.S. 29 and the 250 bypass is alright. No bedbugs or pest issues when I stayed there.

Best Western Mt Vernon Motel off Rt. 29 at Emmett Street in C'ville.
I stayed there recently and it was fine for me. Of course, if you have stayed
at Hiltons, etc you should stick with what you know and try to get a lower rate. Doubletree and Mt Vernon Motel are in 2 different worlds.

Default Fairfield Inn

Fairfield Inn often comes up for $45 per night on priceline (bidding).

Sorry to resurrect old thread, but this may help other visitors.
