Are there any Bad areas in staunton. You know places not to move to? Looking to rent a house or duplex in the next 8 months. Need to know where to look. Not worried about schools as we have no school aged children.
We are in our late 40 early 50's with an 18 yo.

Have you done a search (above) on Staunton, va? There are several threads over the past couple of years. I know one person who lived in Staunton, has said to live above rt.250, Churchville ave. (I think it is an ave) for "better areas".

There's nothing in Staunton I would call a "bad area." Obviously housing closer together or next to an apartment complex is going to have more issues than a neighborhood with big yards and fences.

Staunton-native here. You can pretty much drive around and guess with a fairly good accuracy the nicer and less nice areas.

The North side around Robert E Lee HS and then closer to the county is the most affluent. The Gospel Hill area of downtown also has some nice older homes, but it is a little patchy.

You can tell the 'less affluent neighborhoods' when you are in them.

Everything else is pretty much in the middle and nice to live in.

I grew up in the Green Spring Valley which is the neighborhood behind Wendy's and Bessie Weller and give it two thumbs up for a middle of the road neighborhood, might even call it upper-middle. Homes are in the upper 100k's and low-mid 200k's so rent would probably be $1000-1400 I'd guess. My grandparents lived in Skymont which is the area just North of Gypsy Hill park of Spring Hill Rd and is also a nice middle of the road neighborhood.

Even in the 'less affluent neighborhoods' I would not be afraid of living in them as long as you are a nice person who doesn't cause trouble. I believe crime is pretty low, there is just not a great big economy so many people are living on very little income and can't keep their homes up.
