Quick question, if anyone knows about the area. What's it like to live in North Garden? I'm looking to relocate with the family to the Nelson/Albemarle County area from Florida. I see North Garden is under 15 minutes away from Charlottesville, which is a perfect distance for us. I've also noticed Crozet to be a nice area, although a little pricier then North Garden. Is it quiet in North Garden? How are the schools? Are people friendly to newcomers? Thanks for your input!

North Garden is very quiet and mostly rural. It's gorgeous with a huge beautiful lake and park with hiking trails, fishing, swimming, children's activities. (google Walnut Creek Lake). It is a mix of farms, many horse ranches, very wealthy estates and just regular residential with acreage. Very close to C'ville and close to Crozet to use as a smaller town. The zoning protects it from crazy subdivision development like is happening in Crozet. The best part of NG property I think is on the west side of 29. Easier to get to C'ville and Crozet.

There is a Post office, fire dept and a little small town center with bank, but most just use C'ville or Crozet for shopping as they are both close.

The locals love the elementary school, but it doesn't do that well test wise. There is a top notch but expensive private school (Millers School) down the road nearby that many use. There is a wonderful winery -- Pippin hill Winery that is drop dead gorgeous with stunning views, food, and wine. There is famous Doc Hos Pizza. And very close to Batesville Market with live music.
And a lovely preservation development in North Garden called Bundoran Farms that Southern Living picked to build it's idea House this year which just sold for $2.4 M. Housing prices range from very reasonable to very high -- most have acreage included.
It is 45 minutes drive to Wintergreen ski resort.

The schools are excellent in Crozet and there is more to do for kids. It is a wonderful community, but is growing like crazy.

After rereading my above post, I realized I made it sound really expensive. There is a real mix, and some very affordable places to rent or buy in North Garden.
