We've got a few years, but we are looking at places my husband may want to do a one year medical fellowship.

We have three young children that will be school age, so decent/good schools are important, but in the end, a year is a year. We will probably be looking for a 3 bed/2 bath withing 15-20 min of the University of Virginia Hospital. Possibly up to 30 min away, but closer is better with call. Budget would probably be $1800-2000/month. Finally, we are lovers of the outdoors (running, cycling, hiking). The proximity to Shenandoah is appealing...

Would Charlottesville be a good fit for us? We are in DFW now and will probably settle down in Texas for good, but the idea of enjoying a smaller place with better scenery/outdoor options and a easier commute for a year sounds appealing.

C'ville is a very pretty place with shopping, movies, restaurants, college sports obviously with UVA's Cavaliers, I've been to football and baseball games there and its a nice day out.

If C'ville has a downfall it would be traffic and cost of living, Thomas Jefferson and again UVA is irs biggest draw, thats not a bad thing but without UVA or TJ there wouldnt be much to get excited about, it would still be a pretty place.

I'm from New York originally and bought a 4 bedroom ranch on just under 2 acres of Farm Land in Orange Va, I'm outside of Charlottesville and if you want to see gorgeous come to Orange with our farms, vineyards, and open land,.

What sort of traffic issues are there? (Keep in mind, we are currently from DFW)

The longest traffic slow down issues that regular occur are no more than a 15 to 20 minutes delay and because normal traffic is not restricted it seems excessive. Compared to any locale with real traffic issues, DC, ATL, DFW, NYC, LA, it is negligible.
