May move to Charlottesville from California next year, have 2 small kids. Anyone have suggestions for which area of town they recommend? I liked Fontana because is was close to downtown, but Crozet seemed to have better schools, at least by reputation. The quality of the Charlottesville City Schools seemed lower, but this is just what I inferred from greatschools.net. Specifically we are considering Stoney Point (Fontana), Brownsville (Crozet), and Johnson Elementary (Charlottesville City).

Anybody have any first-hand insight? Thanks so much!

I work in Albemarle County public schools. It is a great school system. I would stay away from the City schools. They have gone through some tough central office changes the last couple of years.

Default Wahs

The schools in Western Albemarle are the best in the region. However, this may change dramatically with the growth of the Crozet region in years to come.

Default Eastern vs. Western Schools

Anybody from Charlottesville have an opinion as to how much of a difference there is between the western and eastern Albemarle systems? Are Brownsville and Henley that much better than Stony Point and Burley? Any insight would be much appreciated. Apparently, the real estate agents aren't allowed to give opinions about schools... Thanks!

WESTERN SCHOOLS:
Elementary School: Brownsville
Middle School: Henley
High School: Western Albemarle

EASTERN SCHOOLS:
Elementary School: Stony Point
Middle School: Burley
High School: Monticello

Truth be told, I'm not sure Stony Point existed when I was going to school there, and I know Monticello High is a new addition since my departure from the area so I can't help you much there......

Henley and Western were awesome though...

I went to Henley and Western as well...I would recommend either one. As for Elementary, I would not recommend Broadus Wood, but Murray Elementary was quite good. At least when I went there, they were offering after-school piano lessons...
