I'm thinking of getting a cat and this will be the first time I've had a pet in Charlottesville. So, please provide recommendations on vets that provide good cat care. I also occasionally go out of town, so where are good places to board pets? I want somewhere that is going to let my cat have a bit of freedom (ie not keep him/her locked in a cage the entire time I'm gone). I know there is a 24 hour emergency pet care facility near there airport. Anyone have experience with that and if so, how was the care? Are there any other places like that in town? Any other CVille related cat advice much appreciated!

Cheryl Thorpe is one of the best vets in Charlottesville. Kind and extremely intelligent, great with pets and their care, great personality.

I've only lived here for less than a year but have three cats and have been taking them to Cat Care Clinic on Rt 29 across from Lowe's. They have cards in their lobby of cat sitters(haven't yet tried them myself). For certain treatments they have me take my kitties to VRCC west of Richmond.

Do you mind sharing for what treatments you have to take your cats to Richmond? Having to transport a cat out of CVille would be difficult for me because I cannot drive. So I'm wondering if this is going to be a likely possibility in my case.

two of my cats had heart murmurs, so I had to take them to VRCC to do a echocardiogram(I think that's what is called). They didn't have the equipment at Cat Care Clinic.
