Being retired i would like to hear about cost to live around SE Chattanooga VS. North GA around Ringgold. And/or is there property near the river but high ground? Would anyone have info on these 2? Does either have evident (retiree) benefit over the other... like taxation

Tennessee does not have state income tax. Chattanooga's sales tax is much higher than GA, because of that (approx 9.25%). We used to live in Apison, TN (we live on the East Coast now). I personally do not know much about Ringgold. Along the GA/TN border, house prices are generally less expensive in GA than in TN. We chose TN over GA because of no income tax and the schools. Good luck, it's a beautiful area.

Looking at it from a purely financial/tax perspective, Tennessee is better by far for us working stiffs, but once you get to retirement Georgia is better. TN does not tax wage income, but it does tax investment income (the Hall Tax), including retirement funds. That income is mostly exempt in GA.
