Can anyone tell me more about it? The good the bad and the ugly...how is the jobs situation? How far are you from the mountains? Good schools? Anything else you can think. Never been there but its on my short list to move to.

Cleveland is a very nice town. It's growing alot from what I hear. My ENT is in Cleveland. What mountains are you refering to the Smokeys? There are some mountains around Cleveland too. Not like the Smokeys but still mountains not very far away. It is a very pretty area.

Yes the smokies is what I was referring to. I have never been near Cleveland but the size and the fact its near an interstate and still fairly close to Ga and Nc is why it is on my short list.

About the only thing I know about Cleveland is that I drive through/around it on the way to go rafting, so that's what I'll address.

Cleveland is located right in the middle of the "ridge and fold" section of TN, which is a flattish area with tons of short ridges (maybe a few hundred feet of "relief") running in a south-west to north-east direction. You can see the mountains from Cleveland, but only if you're up on a hill. The closest ones really aren't that tall.

The nearest "mountains" to Cleveland would be reached by driving straight down Hwy 64/74 to the Ocoee #1 dam and the edge of the Cherokee National Forest, about 20 minutes away non rush-hour. But to get to the higher mountains, or to get to mountains in GA or NC, you're looking at an hour or more.

The best way to get a feel for this is to just look at Google Maps satellite view.

Cleveland is beautiful! Lots of woods, Tons of farm land and mountain range is all around, its 30mins from Chattanooga which was noted the #1 best family town in the US by Outsider Magazine a couple mths ago. There are tons of elementary schools in Cleveland, a nice little town and not so boring. My friend is a river guide for O.A.R. Travis (Big Daddy T) is his name and he is an awesome guide! He and many others guide the Ocoee River which was known for the '96 Summer Olympics and they have lots of things you can do on the river. There is also a portion of the Ocoee that runs off into what is called the Hiwassee River where it is less calm than the Ocoee but they do rafting and tubing on the river there also. (Hiwassee being more for family and the Ocoee for more adventurous types). The valleys of the Blue Ridge Mtn Range (Smokey Mtns) isnt very far. Cleveland is about 45 mins from The Lost Sea Caverns and about an hour from the Smokeys. Youre prolly about 2 hours from NC if you count the time going through the smokeys to get to the other side of the range to NC. Maybe 2.5 hours tops. But the scenery makes it go faster in the fall. There is a place called Maggie Valley on the NC side of the smokeys and they have year around skiing and snowboarding and snow tubing. But its the best in the winter. Because its not all fake snow. Lots to do in the Smokeys and Pigeon Forge. The fall is absolutely georgeous, both Cleveland and the Smokeys. We live in Chattanooga and we visit our friends there and had looked for property ourselves but due to the house market right now, selling my house has been imposible so we cant move right now. But we had found property in cleveland that we had fallen in love with and are crossing our fingers that its still there when we get ready to move. Unless you get it first! lol. We have a special needs child and they have elementary schools with special needs programs which is very hard to come by. Theres only a couple in Chattanooga that specialise in needs children so we'll get to cleveland as soon as we can. We have family that live on Signal Mtn in Chattanooga. There are lots of Mtns surrounding Cleveland Valley and the areas surrounding Cleveland. And if my calculations on the driving time is wrong it cant be too much off but someone from cleveland can verify the driving times for me. I havent driven it for a while but riding on the way there didnt seem so far. Hope this helps you!
