Are there any residential airparks in the greater Chattanooga area? I will be relocating soon (VW gig) and would like to live and purchase at an airpark. I can't seem to find anything online close enough to the area for a reasonable commute.

Thanks, Walt

You mean a private airstrip with houses around it, similar in concept to a golf-course-community except with airplanes instead of golf? Never heard of it until I just googled it, and don't know of any around here. But maybe someone else does and will chime in. There are several realtors who are regulars here.

While googling I did spot Heaven's Landing in north Georgia, but at 86 miles that's a heck of a daily commute to drive to VW. You might have to settle for a house adjacent to a public strip. I know there are houses immediately adjacent to the Colledgedale Airport (KFGU), which is a very short commute to VW.

Yes, thats exactly what I meant. I'll check out Colledgedale, as I'm not finding any parks that are under an hours drive away.

Thanks, Walt

Just remember that Collegedale is owned and run by Seventh Day Adventists. They are one of two cities in the USA that get mail delivered on Sunday, instead of Saturday because of their Sabbath. For me, it is a much too religious community and I would not feel comfortable living or working there. There are others that truly love it there though.

Alternatively there is Dallas Bay Skypark in Middle Valley. Not quite as close as Collegedale though. Personally I would prefer it, as it is a more established area and doesn't have a ton of construction going on, and traffic isn't as bad.

If you're looking for an "airpark"-type facility then I doubt you'd find suitable housing at/near the Collegedale airstrip. Also, I'm not familiar with the actual support facilities (strip length, hanger facilities, maintenance/fuel, etc.) so that would be soumething you'd have to investigate. However, I do know that Cleveland, TN (20 miles from VW) is just completing a brand new public jetport with a 5,500 ft. runway. No housing on the airfield property, but numerous opportunities for a nice home within 1-2 miles of the airfield. Maybe you should check out Cleveland, TN. (Yes, I live here.)
