My husband and I have decided to relocate to Georgia or Tennessee.

We live in the Hamptons on the east end of Long Island and are looking to escape, 1) tourists, 2) the ultra-wealthy and the attitudes that go with them, 3) the crowds. We are going to be 40 next year, have no kids, (but a black lab that's like one), and we really enjoy the outdoors - hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. We are planning to semi-retire - working maybe 20 hours a week each.

Our dream is to have a house on a lake with 2 or more acres.

Where do you think would be a good place to start? We've only just made this decision and are planning a scouting trip. Thanks for your help in advance!!

(P.S. I posted this on the Georgia sight, too.)

Did you mean to put this in the Chattanooga subforum, or did you want it in the general TN forum? I mean we love Chattanooga, so we would love to help you, but just want to make sure you meant to be here!

Thumbs up North Hamilton Co.

S.J.: Prior Poughkeepsie (Hudson River) here on the north end of Hamilton Co. The Tn river and our wide lake Chickamauga has excellent fishing, was high all this summer with Tva dam system. The 2 acre on water is getting to be a challenge as the secret of this area is Out. There is some TVA land you may be able to BUTT your rear yard against for that kind of privicy. Also recently I saw a front yard sign for 49 acres with house , rear water access on LEE pike., Soddy Daisy Town.
. .Have not done any hunting, but deer in our back yard throughout year, go out to farmers field, common along road. Not real giant antler sizes.
. You would be close to N. Ga for visits. Town of HELEN has good festivals, area of Lake Hiwassee nice, also high mtn.

Split- Thanks for the input!!

Beachbyrd- Yes - I did mean to post in Chattanooga since our preliminary research looks like a match, but we are open to other areas as well. I didn't realize I could post on a "general" Tennessee forum. I'll have to try that, too. Thanks.

Hi again,

I was just checking, because people post in the wrong spot at times! We are new to the area, and I probably don't have all of the info that some do, but there are a lot of communities on the water nearby. Split lives by the water and he has already responded. We really love it here, and there is so much to do outdoors here.

Here are a couple of good sites to visit:

Outdoor Chattanooga

Chattanooga's official travel site - Chattanooga, Tennessee Events, Attractions and Dining

Hope these are helpful. When are you coming down to visit?

Yea but with TN 10% sales tax, and higher property taxes, GA is looking good.
