I like to walk outside nearly everyday. I know it's hot and humid in the summer so am wondering where would be a good place to live. Not Signal Mtn as I read about the traffic. I was apt. hunting online and noticed one area overlooked what appeared to be a valley. At the very least the pic was taken from the road above. Could see plenty of houses so not isolated but also lots of nice trees. Didn't pay attention at the time but now I wish I had. Or would living in the 'flats' be windier since wind might sweep through (tornadoes)? Anticipating power blackouts in a heatwave. That would literally be hell!

"breezy"? The mountians of course. The city sits in a valley and to the extent that the day is breezy, you'll get the tunnel effect between the mountains. In summer, that does not happen often. The very nice residential areas on the mountains started as weekend cottages for the wealthy families more than a hundred years ago. The Incline railroad started as an actual point to point transportation vehicle for the families who lived up there during the summer.

Just read that rents are rising faster than in NYC. One man's story:

"When the apartment complex asked for $690 for the one-bedroom unit, Davis moved out. Now he's living in a two-bedroom place in North Georgia -- with one-and-a-half baths and a backyard -- for $500 a month."

I think I should check out North Georgia then...

Default Soddy Big Gulf walk park / creek.

P.P. You dont say if you own a car to move around, or need the city for busing / employment. ? Northern part of Hamilton county has the newer Linear walk park in the deep shade of Soddy Mtn Gulf.. Along the flowing creek there are a few beach areas where one could shallow swim...This would be your coolest walk spot all summer. Try a LINK Outdoor Chattanooga - Big Soddy Gulf

There is another new apt complex being built in Soddy right next to CVS & Walgreen pharmacy, which is across street from Wal Mart. ..

Most of Hamilton county went to the Electrical / computer stimulus a few years ago, which has the transformer re-route grid to really reduce power outage during storms... There are a few falling trees that
knock off power, but it is rare to last more than a hour.
