New to the area and looking for a great Christian, nondenominational, contemporary (doesn't mean progressive, just not a boring one that's all stuffy feeling), Church that my family can all enjoy. Over the years I've found the family loves a pastor that has a great personality and a band that sings good contemporary music that we can all sign-a-long to. The ideal church would be big enough to have a good turn out (few hundred, but not a mega church of a thousand people) where it feels like ants marching in and out. We haven't picked a place to live yet for good, so the ideal church would be close to (within 15-20 min of Harrison)

Christ United Methodist Church in East Brainerd meets all the criteria except location. Harrison would be a bit of a drive.
  • At 9:30AM there is a Contemporary/Rock service in the main sanctuary simultaneous as a Gospel service in an old fellowship hall (Commons). Same sermon (one live, one live-stream), with different music. Both are far from "stuffy", and the Gospel band really gets people up on their feet.
  • At 11:00AM there is a Traditional (choir, robes, hymns) service in the sanctuary with a second Contemporary service in the Commons.

Right now, there is only one service at 10:00, where they sing at least one song from each type of normal service. They're supposed to resume normal services in August.

The head pastor is an amazing speaker, touching on a huge variety of real topics.
