Hey, guys.....DH wants to include a scenic drive on our upcoming visit. I guess a 13 hour drive there and back isn't enough for him! Any awesome ones that wouldn't take us more than an hour or 2 away from Chattanooga? One that actually took us to a small town with antique stores would be ideal!! I know this isn't the best time of year for scenic drives in most areas of the country, but with the mountains so close I was hoping there would be some pretty areas to drive through.

Thumbs up CHEROHALA SKYWAY rt #165

BB: ONly did this one week ago for the 1st time,. Very impressed. Can go half up , they return back to the west. 5,200 feet elevation at top. Views out both sides of good road.
TELLICO PLAINS is your nice town at foothills. Rt # 39 East of Athens. Also called rt # 143 on the North Carolina side. One of many links Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains Tennessee
ENJOY, Many lookout parking spots.

I can not think of the drive, but here is one we took. It travels from Cloudland State Park area in NW Georgia to Signal Mountain and down past Ruby Falls back to town. Does anyone know the name of this road? I don't recall antique shops, but the scenery, particularly around the hang gliding location was breathtaking!

We travel 193 through Flintstone and the Chickamauga cove (with the dairy farms) and back up and across the top of the mountain on 157 to Ruby Falls and end up in St Elmo. Is that the one you are thinking of?

Thanks guys....I knew you would have some great suggestions! We'll probably do both drives. They sound like they are in different directions. I also did a search on here and found another thread with some suggestions. One was a loop that took 127 across Signal Mtn. into Sequatchie Valley to 27 and back to Chattanooga. It sounded easy until I tried to find it on the map. I'm going to get the map back out and try to find your two drives.

The Signal Mtn/Dayton loop IS another great ride! Taft Highway/127 over Signal Mtn to Dunlap, north 127 to Pikeville, east on 30 (over mtn) to Dayton, south 27 back to Chattanooga. This is an excellent ride that many bikers take on a nice summer day. If you prefer to mix a nice river run into it, nix Taft Highway/127 and take Suck Creek Road/River Canyon Rd/Mullins Cove to 27/Mineral Springs then onto 127 up to Pikeville. On Mullins Cove Rd you will see just about everything. Old churches, tar paper shacks, million dollar homes and plenty of hunting dogs lol We have done this run so many times that the directions sound easy but I know it can be confusing. Get your maps out Mapquest seemed pretty clear though if you want to check it out from there. If you get lost, there are plenty of folks that will be glad to help you out.
