I generally post in the Atlanta/GA forums but plan to visit Chattanooga this holiday season. I would like a moderately priced motel for 2 adults and a small dog in a safe part of the city hopefully near shops/dining.

So far I've found this link and would like your opinions, too>>>
Chattanooga Tennessee TN Hotels, Motels and Area Attractions

The historic Holiday Inn/Chattanooga Choo Choo sounds interesting and I glanced at a review of 'The Chattanoogan' --which seemed to be more of a resort.

LOL--I just don't want a Chevy Chase type of vacation --had a few of those.

Cool More LINKS

TH: Here is another link ,Chattanooga Visitors Bureau - Chattanooga's Official Travel Site
may get same info, or some different pics, places. .Some of the visitors use a "Extend -a -Stay ,, or "Away from Home " suites in the Hixon area.
. DownTown should be pretty with the decoration lights.
ENJOY . Let us know what you find.
Travel books in the welcome Center I-75 may have some coupons. Check the dates you are coming as a BIG football Bowl game is usually played in the UTC stadium each year.?

Hmmm---a big football game is played during the holidays? That should add to the challenge of finding rooms. I've just always meant to visit Chattanooga--there is a poster in the ATL forum that recommends it --and this seemed like a good time.

Thanks for the links and I'll keep looking. Any thoughts on that Holiday Inn/Choo Choo?

Some friends of mine stayed in this bed & breakfast downtown called Bluff View Inn. It is located within 3 huge historic homes on a bluff overlooking the Tennessee River. They had an amazing stay & said it was quite reasonable rates. Some of the rooms have a view of the river which I'm sure is amazing but I presume the non view rooms are good deals. They have rooms they say are for the "budget-conscious traveler" & they sound really nice. Here is a link:
Bluff View Inn :: Bluff View Art District (http://76.162.170.58/subpage.php?pageId=142 - broken link)
It is near the Walnut St. pedestrian bridge. Walking distance to Downtown & North shore shops.

Default Lookout Valley

Moderator cut: deleted

Consider staying in Lookout Valley, a five minute drive from downtown. Accommodations there are usually much cheaper than ones on the riverfront. Also consider Staybridge Suites, next to the convention center. It's location isn't great (not much there besides the center), but it's only a five minute walk from the free electric shuttle which can take you right to the waterfront.

Thanks. I've been looking but I'm getting tired.

I love the Bluff View Inn/District but I will have my small dog and 'No Pets'. I've looked at several Pets OK motels and now think that somewhere near the Days Inn/River Gate/Carter St? might work--but of course, at that motel --'No Pets'.

I looked at the Sky Harbor Bavarian Inn on Lookout Mt but wonder just how far away this location is from the shopping/dining area--I really don't want to be driving on dark, unfamiliar mountain roads.

I will now check on the Staybridge Suites--the shuttle sounds good.

What do you know about the Holiday Inn/Historic/Choo Choo--whatever it's called--they take pets and it sounds interesting. I am planning a 'Moderately' expensive trip--just a little get away from Atlanta. See the sights--have a nice moderate meal or two and walk around with my dog.

The following motels/hotels are listed as Pet Friendly---if anyone knows where they are located/what you think of them --I'd appreciate the opinions. I think I would like to stay near the Days Inn on Carter, which does not take pets.>>

-Ramada Ltd--Chattanooga
-Quality Suites-Chattanooga
-Quality Inn, Chattanooga
-Howard Johnson Plaza, Chattanooga
-La Quinta Inn, Chattanooga
-Days Inn--Hamilton Place
-Best Western Royal Inn, Chattanooga
-Baymont Inn and Suites, Chattanooga
There are several more that are located near Lookout Mt. which will be a second choice for me.

I don't know about the hotels you have listed as we stayed at a couple of ones not on your list. I have heard mentioned on theis forum that the Choo Choo is a good hotel, and I have never personally had a bad stay at a Quality Suites.

On the list you have above, Hamilton Place is several minutes away from downtown and wouldn't be on my list if you are looking for the downtown experience. From your moniker, "TakeAhike" I can assume you like to walk! The downtown area is very pedestrian friendly in my opinion, and the closer you get to the aquarium, the more there is to do, but probably pricier for a hotel. My wife and I visited Chattanooga this past June and posted a few pictures in this sub-forum, you can check out. To me, and I am very partial to Chicago, there are parts of the downtown that resemble Michigan Avenue, except a lot less shopping! Beautiful, scenic, lots of trees... enjoy your visit and let us know what you decide to do, how your stay goes, etc.

Thanks, Grizzly--great pics. I can't wait to see Chattanooga--I can't visualize how its laid out--but the river must add a lot.

It seems the Quality Suites that I listed is in this Hamilton area--but it looked very nice.

Plan B is to possibly stay in Dillard/Clayton, GA at a B&B, Sylvan Falls Mills and just drive to Chattanooga for a day. This B&B does take pets but is apparently very small--so that might not work out either. Grrr--I understand why pets are not welcome but 'gimme a break'.

Your best bet is the La Quinta on Shallowford and I-75. It's cheap, no extra charge for pets and is right across the street from Hamilton Place mall. I stayed there several times before I moved here and they are very pet friendly and you get a free breakfast and free wireless internet. Can't beat it.
