Does anybody know about the residential area right next to Erlanger? Immediately to the east? (North of 3rd, East of Central)
I know it is not glamorous right now, but it seems like a great location, close to the hospital, and the University AND downtown. With all that, it should be poised to take off soon.
How is the crime or trouble there right now?

Actually the crime in this area is not bad due to a heavy police presence. That area is called Glenwood and is up and coming, but it is on a block by block basis.

I thought Glenwood was around the Memorial Hospital, Parkridge Hospital, Notre Dame High School, and McCallie School areas and that as you start getting closer to Erlanger it turns into Orchard Knob and Bushtown?

You are right, I got my hospitals confused. The Glenwood area is safer than Orchard Knob and Bushtown, even though they are fairly close geographically. I think both areas in time will greatly improve as more and more people want to move back into a rehabilitated downtown Chattanooga. They are offering grants to move into these parts of town, so you may be eligible for up to $10,000 for a downpayment.

Who is offering Grants for these parts? Is it the City? Do you have a contact or phone #? THANK YOU.
P.S. the area I am asking about is separated (I believe) by a bunch of railroad tracks from Bushtown/Orchard Knob.
This area is bounded by
-Scruggs on the east,
-3rd on the South and
-Central/Erlanger on the west.
Any thoughts on that one?

Pretty much any realtor can instruct you on the $10,000 incentive for home purchases in town. This is a real deal BUT the catch is that there are only so many purchases that qualify, meaning first come first serve (according to my realtor friend). It's a good deal. I think the only requirements are that you stay in the home for a certain amount of time. Try Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprises for more info @ CNE

The neighborhood you are asking about is quite sketchy though I agree it DOES seem like a jewel given it's location and nearby development. I MIGHT buy for a rental and hope that it gets better... Come check it out for yourself, really. I would probably try more towards Fortwood if that area is something you like.
