Hi we are moving to the area soon and are looking at houses. We found a house we really like but the elementary school listed is East Brainerd Elementary. I'm wondering if it is a good school. The webpage for it doesn't work and I can't find out alot of information. Does anyone know if this a bad school?

I have absolutely no personal knowledge of the school,.so I could be totally wrong,,,BUT, strictly from what I have heard, it is generally thought of as not being very good.

Look a little bit further down East Brainerd Rd. at the Westview or Apison elementary zones.

I'm pretty sure the link to the zoning maps is here: http://www.hcde.org/site/zoning/, but I can't get it to work this morning. Probably all the parents checking to see if the schools are closed because it *might* snow this afternoon.

I do know that THIS link works, then click on "Zoning" in the lower left corner, pick your age group, then click on the zone to see a fairly detailed map.

Edit: I agree with wilsonmom3 and shinestx. Westview is considered one of the best "normal" public elementary schools in the county. Apison is also supposed to be pretty good. Both these feed partially into the East Hamilton Middle/High School, which is the newest school in the county.

Default Elementary Schools

My son goes to Westview (I specifically looked for a house in that school zone) and we think it is the place to be. Friends have their children at Apison and they like it. I know they both have issues at times like any place but overall get a positive rating. My daughter goes to East Hamilton middle/high and she likes it and we have high hopes. These schools are not Baylor or GPS etc but for the public schools they are probably among the best in the county.

Parts of East Brainerd Elementary is zoned for East Hamilton.

Good Luck

You can get a lot of info at www.greatschools.net if you haven't checked it out, you should. You can compare schools in the area, look at test scores, read parent reviews and more. We just finished out house hunting journey due to relocation from out of state and this was our main priority since we have a son who will start Kindegarten in the fall. I found greatschools.net to be helpful. We close on our house next Friday. My son will be attending Apison. We specifically looked at houses that were zoned for Apison and Westview along with a few others.

Good luck!

Default one more thing!

East Brainerd Elementary is in a terrible location as far as traffic goes (East Brainerd and Joiner rd with back of school at Gunbarrel corner). I've never been inside but the exterior looks like my old Elementary school from early 70's - not to judge a book by it's cover but it looks really old. hope this helps!

It's in an affluent area, so I can hardly imagine it being below average. It is in a bad traffic spot, though not extraordinarily so. It won't be as easy a pick-up as Westview, but it's half decent.

Yes, the school is old. Practically historic (East Brainerd, for a suburb, is actually a pretty old part of town, though its is 95% new development), though I'm sure the building has had very major rebuilding since then. The building itself does look to be about forty or thirty years old.
