I find this quite odd that there is absolutely nothing going on in the city for St. Patrick's Day. Is there not an Irish-American club here? Most every town I have lived or visited has some sort of Irish festival going on, even if it is just at a local Irish pub.

With all of the surrounding areas, even Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville, there's bound to be some Irish musicians or dancers that would be willing to come here for a small festival.

I believe the Tremont Tavern and the Hair of the Dog Pub both have the standard bar fare occurring. Those would be my two choices for going on the town, but no parade that I have heard of...

This is my 1st St Patricks in Chattanooga. After talking a few locals and others from surrounding states Ive kinda noticed that down south St Patricks is not as big of a deal. After seeing all the other great events Chattanooga has year round I thought Chattanooga would have a lot going on. I guess I am spoiled coming from Chicago and having the parades and the river dyed green.

I believe it's this way because St. Patrick's Day is more of a Catholic Irish holiday. Most of the Irish who settled in the Appalacian Mountains are Scot-Irish, Ulster-Scot or Orange, from the Scottish lowlands and Northern England who settled in the Plantation of Ulster and then immigrated to Appalacia. I think mainly presbyterians. I believe they were called Irish when they arrived and over the years have started calling themselved Scot-Irish. I don't think they celebrate St. Patrick's day, or it's not as important to them as it is to the Irish.
