It certainly doesn't seem that way to a visitor.

And I know people who lived near Chattanooga, then lived in Nashville for several years, then happily moved back to Chattanooga when they retired (partly to be near their daughter). They had a nice house in a nice neighborhood in Nashville.

No doubt you can find someone who dislikes any place. I'm sure there's at least one person in Beverly Hills who hates it. I'm not saying the poster you referred to is wrong, but he's only seeing it with one pair of eyes, others may see it completely different.

Welcome back Mitch. Yeah, sure we have our dumpy areas what city doesn't? Development is at an all-time high so I am not sure where that is coming from. Crime is not an issue for most of us living here every day. I live in a small neighborhood bordering on one of the busiest secondary roads in this area and living amongst lots of minorities and rental homes and we don't even lock our doors when we travel the neighborhood. Never had a break in etc... That speaks volumes to me.

which areas would fit the 'dumpy' description? I agree...all cities have them.

we watched the local news while in TN, and it was nothing like the newscasts in South Florida (after watching just one night of local news here you'd be inclined to never leave the house!). Looking forward to less stress-less crime area

Sweetz, you were born and raised in Chatt? If so, where was your "dumpy" area? I was raised in Hixson and bought a house in Brainerd. My family could not believe I was GOING TO MOVE ACROSS THE RIVER! Say it ain't so?! Like I was moving to Mars lol
