I had an opportunity to make a video of my '76 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy-Five Limousine while a car friend was here. Him filming and me driving. On a local street with a curve. Speed limit is 50 mph and 40 mph on the curved portion. I drove though that portion (curved) at 65 mph. Mainly to show that a '60s/'70s full-sized American car... and a limousine, at that... can drive on a street with a curve well above the posted speed limit. The car was not quite at the limit; I could have pushed it up to 70, maybe even 75 mph.

Video came out well. You can tell the car is going faster than the average traffic.

Car is visible starting at 0:07...

Fleet, you know it's surprising how easy it is to drive huge luxury cars from the 70's once someone get's used to it's size. At first it seems impossible to turn, or handle these cars with particular precision on slight turns, and get a lil scared about hitting other cars on the road. But once you get the hang of their size and weight, it's like driving any other car, and over time, the car actually feels smaller and becomes "normal" to you.

So getting back into a smaller modern vehicle, feels completely strange and diminutive.

Yes, true, sdlife619.

It would be interesting for me to have someone drive the limo and say, "go as fast as you can while feeling comfortable on this stretch of street." They would probably start at about 30 mph, then as they get used to the car, 40, then 50+ mph!

As you said, I didn't even think of "hard to control the car" when I brought her up to 65 mph! I'm so used to driving it, it almost feels like a regular car. Almost.

Thanks.

What's funny is that I see people in considerably smaller cars going about 40 mph, and then brake just as they enter the curve. I mean, there is no reason at all to brake. At least, not when you are only going 40 mph. Guess they are being "extra careful?"

Who knows. I gave up trying to figure out how people drive. I'm generally annoyed when I drive the pickup (similar size to your land yacht but probably heavier and definitely a higher CG) because people won't carry as much speed through corners as I like to. And it wastes about $.50 of gas every time you even look at the gas pedal.

What's really irritating on the street in the video is when two cars are side by side (it's two lanes each direction) and they are both crawling along at 30 mph and it's impossible to pass them.

My limo weighs 5,980 lbs. 9-13 mpg.

So you think it's cool to speed in a residential area?

Somehow I thought you were older than 17, my mistake.

It's not a residential area.

The video was for "test and historic" purposes only.

And who here has never gone over the speed limit?.
