I have a 2012 Chevy Equinox LTZ that I bought last year. I absolutely love this truck and the only thing I feel like I missed was a Sunroof. I love sunroofs and have never had a vehicle with one (well, I had a convertible once though). Anyway, over the past 6 months, it's had an issue where when I increase speed, it jerks as if it was stuck in gear and had to force its way out. The first time it happened, I thought someone had hit me in the rear. It's starting to happen a bit more now. I've searched online and have found similar complaints but no fixes. Most people get sent home from the dealer with an "unable to duplicate" response.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I also have the option to trade... I have decent credit. But there are no vehicles I really want right now. I'm accustomed to paying car notes, but I hate buying a vehicle I don't really want. I've done that twice and loathed it.

Any suggestions on whether or not to trade, what might be wrong with my SUV, and/or a good SUV to consider buying? (I don't like cars and already have a truck in the household)

Thanks in advance for any responses! This is my first visit to the Automotive forum.

How many miles are on it? You should have a powertrain warranty until 100k miles (or 5 years from new).

I honestly hadn't thought about that. I bought it used. Don't know if that matters. I have about 80k miles on it. I'll look at my paperwork.

I believe GM's powertrain warranty (and roadside assistance) is transferable. I would try to make them fix it.

Even if you have to pay to have it fixed, it will be far cheaper than getting a new car. Check your warrant, but don't hesitate to take it to a good independent garage and get it repaired.

Wish I could trade you the sunroof from our Equinox. It was the one option we didn't want (wife has melanoma) but it was on our LTZ that had every other option we wanted. I hated paying $900 for it. But my wife loves her Equinox otherwise.

Which engine do you have, the 2.4L 4 cyl or the V6? After the 2010 and some early 2011 models, they are really a pretty good vehicle. The early 4 cyl models did have some engine problems. You do have a 5 yr 100K mile powertrain warranty on it.

This might be one of those situations where you might have to video the problem if you can, to show the service department what it is doing. It sounds like some kind of electrical servo issue to me. But you do want to get it on the record with the dealer before the warranty runs out, so they would be more inclined to fix it if it does go out.

There is a pretty good Equinox/Terrain forum with a lot of helpful people on it if you want to ask around on there.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone! I know I'm very late to the post. I have decided to keep my truck. I've also checked my warranty information and will have the dealer look at my truck this weekend to start a record of the issue.
