Equinoxes seem to be a dime a dozen around here, but they look good and I enjoyed the test drive I took this afternoon of a 2011 model.

I was doing some research and they didn't have great reliability records for 2010-2011, but years after that they do great for reliability.

The 2011 I test drove seems like a good deal, but I may spend an extra few thousand on a newer model if there is noticeable quality differences.

Just wondering what other people thought of this car. We like the Traverse as well, but it's really out of our price range.

Our current car died and we need a replacement fairly quickly.

We bought the 2015 LT model and are very happy with it. They're really popular, so that does water down the resale value.

The 2010-2011 models have problems with the piston rings (oil consumption) and timing chain guides. Those problems were corrected for the 2012 and newer models.

Thanks for the replies. Resale isn't a huge factor since we will probably put at least 100k+ miles on it. I kind of figured that would be the negative.

We will probably buy a 2013+ model.

My MIL has a 2010 and her's made it to 145k before it needed a new engine, but I've read about others failing much sooner. I'd play it safe and get a 2012+ model.

Neighbor across the street has one, a 2014 LTZ. She drives it like she stole it. It has the V6 engine. She complains about gas mileage is horrible in town and mid 20's hiway. The biggest issue they've had with it is the A/C. They can't seem to keep A/C more than a couple of weeks and it's gone again. It's at the dealer again right now for A/C. The A/C has been an issue since they bought it new. They had trouble with the transmission last year and it was fixed under warranty. I have no idea what the issue was but the dealer had it a full week.

Thanks for the replies! We're actually probably going to buy a Toyota RAV4. We test drive one today and liked it more. About the same price as the Equinox, but we are getting the certified used warranty which is a nice benefit.
