I am considering a 2014 2ltz Impala and it has the 3.6 v6 engine. I know that gm had timing chain problems with this engine for a period of time. Not sure if it has had head gasket problems too, but I don't think it did. Does anyone know if gm fixed the timing chain issue for 2014 on, or does it have the same expensive timing chain issue for the later years as well. Has anyone encountered a timing chain issue or head gasket problem on your 3.6 gm engine?

The YM 2014 LFX was the third generation of the engine. It came with new head design to eliminate the gasket issues and came with a new designed timing chain. It was a great engine for GM but as the engine ages, you need to be aware of the plastic intake. They are known to break, some dumping coolant into the engine causing catastrophic failure. While not a common occurrence, it's something to be aware of and take care of it any coolant starts to disappear. If you can buy the car right, I'd buy it.

Great news! If the timing chain and head gasket issues are fixed, that is good enough for me. The plastic intake manifold issue sounds similar to the issue that the 3.8's had where the EGR valve heat eroded the plastic intake manifold.
