Regional variability abounds. In my proverbial neck of the woods, Impalas are the darlings of anyone who doesn't want a truck, and who does not place premium on compactness. I see more Impalas than Maximas-Avalons-Acuras combined. At the risk of making an offensive remark, the Impala is the local "feminine" luxury-car favorite, the "masculine" favorite being the Charger.

I see a lot of the previous gen Impala, but for some reason the newest bodystyle doesn't seem to be very popular. I don't know what it is, maybe GM jacked the price up so much that people can't afford them anymore.

Model overlap and lagging sedan sales account for most of the models here. The Volt is a little bit of a surprise but I imagine the technology changing rapidly and the downsizing of sedans in general makes it vulnerable.

Shifting consumer tastes. People want to drive SUVs, crossovers, and sporty cars.

Like I mentioned earlier, they want to use the Volt drivetrain on a more popular body style.

I consider the Impala a useful model given the larger numbers I see here in Texas. The others wont be missed. The Volt is fine as long as other people pay for the subsidy to keep it affordable.

GM just need to file for chapter 11 like it should have in 2008. Ron Paul was right about the bailouts. All it is doing is extending the inevitable.

Sell all their assets and repay the billions it was gifted. Issue an apology to the American people and never, EVER decide to go back to the automobile industry.

They should offer to buy back all cars they have ever made so everyone can buy a Toyota.

Basically a Cash for Trash. All the junk GM cars collected should either be junked or melted to make more Toyotas.

You'll live much longer if you don't stress over events from 10 years ago.
The more car manufacturers the better.
