I could only find this as of 2016 so it may have changed some: Ford led the recall count, followed by Chevrolet at #2. I don't think there is enough of a difference to select one over the other based on recalls only. BTW, Toyota was #4, despite the reputation for reliability, worse than #5 Dodge. Honda was #6. My advice is to avoid the first year of any new or significantly refreshed model.

I wouldn't touch a Ford product after their mass problems with dual clutch transmissions led to thousands of brand new cars ending up in junkyards.

I never buy the first year of a new model...or first year of the used model for that matter. Thank you! You are probably spot on.

Yeah, that's usually the rule of thumb. Or, wait and buy those model years used after those recalls have been, hopefully, fixed.
