No way, it's a disposable Chevy product. I don't buy US mainstream products, they're all made to be destroyed after 10 years.

Replace with a used transmission for ~$1500-~1800 or so.

When you check KBB and NADA values you will probably find that the current value of that car is only about what you will pay for the new transmission. Unless you really love it, the money is better spent as down payment on something else. You might get $50 for it as is at a wrecking yard, or donate it to a charity.

KBB says it's worth $3395 (with a trans that works!)

Wow, had no idea that vehicle value "falls off a cliff.

Always wondered why new one's are $25K...

Now, I know...

If the engine is in good shape and it doesn’t burn any oil (common for Equinox), it may be worth it to avoid payments on another car. That $3200 would be around 7 payments on a new one.

Had this conversation with a woman I'm seeing casually. She wanted a small SUV last summer. I sugged an Acura MDX (a little bit more beef) or Toyota RAV4. She bought a slightly-used Equinox. I dropped it, that's the best move once the deed is done. Coach, but support and allow others to fall down hard. They might learn, and get up again and next time make vastly smarter choices vs. spending one red nickel on a...never mind.

People may or may not look at facts. Not opinions, facts about reliability.

I bought a used Land Cruiser on the 'facts' concept a couple years ago. 250-500K mile vehicles, typically. Just sayin', but I'm the ultimate pragmatist when it comes to vehicles I'll be using (sports cars are an exception: low miles, as much show-as-go in my world). Not something that blows a GD transmission when nine years old @ $3,200 to fix it. Hard pass on that.

I do find it odd that the price for a used transmission for the Equinox is around $2500. That seems awfully high considering how common they are. Seems about $1k overpriced to me.

For $3500 you can buy a used Honda Pilot 05'-07 with 150k mi. The transmission is good for 250k mi. Or get a Toyota 4Runner 06' or Highlander V6 2005. Those are nearly indestructible.

For the 4Runner you need an '07 or newer to avoid the head gasket issue.
