If the new base Camaro (not SS) is 300 horsepower, why is it slower (6.0 0-60) than the 275 Horsepower 1995 Z-28? (5.7 0-60). I do not think that the new one is significantly heavier. Emissions control should be about the same. Just curious. I am sure that someone on here knows.
not comparing stats, the new one is a v6, old one v8. As torque gets ya rolling; i'd put it there for some of the difference. Plus probably higher gears for mpg's
The '10 Camaro is at least 400 pounds heavier than the '93-'02. Also, i'm sure gearing on the '10 V6 will be less aggressive than the gearing was on the '95 V8 performance model.

To get your answer, look at the differences between the two cars in the following specs:
1) torque
2) weight
Despite your suspicions, the difference in weight is pretty substantial, to the tune of about 400 lbs.
0-60 is not the best way to make conclusions about their power, since their traction off the line is crucial for such a short run. 1/4 mile times and speeds would be much better.
i'd be leary of buying from the first round of cars coming thru. I'm pretty excited about this generation of Camaro; but I may wait a bit to make sure any bugs are worked out before I go look at one. No disrespect meant to any line worker, but with all the black couds hanging over their shoulders in the auto biz, one would wonder how focused they can be on doing the best job possible in a build process ( so please don't take this wrong; I know there is a lot of pride in what they do and seeing Janesville WI plant get closed up you can see how hard it is for workers and their communities ).
It's human nature; many of us on this forum are either dealing with a job issue or know ones who have in this economy; and it is very difficult to put your best foot forward not knowing what tomorrow may bring.
I do hope the Camaro hits the floor soon and initial reviews are strong for it. That car won't save Chevy, but should draw interest back to the sales floors which for once would be a positive for them.
I also wonder if the roll out will be limited at first--Chevy may not send these to dealers who may not make the cut if they go thru bankrupcy, though hopefully that's not the case.
