Orland Park has tons of traffic on LaGrange Rd, and some of the main shopping streets too, so I can see folks make the comparison. Reality is that Oak Brook has no true "Main St" and folks who live ther approach from pretty much every direction, so it is easy to avoid the retail corridor for the most part. South suburbs have choke points at the canal / river crossing that are harder to avoid...

Palos park is probably your best bet. And really great for the kids and pets. You can even see the top of the Chicago skyline from the Metra Station!! It also has a very low crime rate compared to Oak Brook & Burr Ridge.

If you factor the utter lack of any major retail in Palo Park against the huge regional mall of Oak Brook and the fairly unique "lifestyle center/ sub regional mall" of Burr Ridge I gotta think any "crime" differences pretty much evaporate -- none of these towns have any violence....
