Here is a service that will find apartments according to your specifics and then drive you to look at each: Apartmentpeople.Evanston.com Really convenient and less hassle when you don't know the area. No cost to you. Landlord pays. However, they are primarily Chicago based, so won't have as many listings in Evanston, but give them a try. Saved me tons of stress when I relocated here.

Also, look at About Us | North Shore Apartments & Condos, Inc. (http://nsapts.com/background/ - broken link). I don't know if they'drive clients, but ask.

Also don't overlook craigslist.com. Type in Evanston in the Chicago section. I'm curious what kind of work has brought you here.

There is even an authentic Irish pub (Irish-owned) in downtown Evanston, with music sessions about twice a week. Celtic Knot, 626 Church St. (Nevins Pub, a few blocks away, is not authentically Irish but is a pleasant place anyway.)

Nice for us to know, but faux "Irish pubs" are the last place an Irish x-pat is looking to hang out when they come here.

My comment was directed at the OP, not you. Celtic Knot is not a faux Irish pub, it's Irish owned and operated. And it's expat, not x-pat.
