Can anyone tell me anything about the "Oakton Historic District" in Evanston? We are planning a move to Evanston and are trying to navigate neighborhoods, etc. The biggest priority for us is a good school for our 7-year-old. I've seen some real estate in that area that looks nice, but then on this board I've heard a lot of people say to avoid this area of Evanston (south and slightly west of campus). I would love any thoughts. Thank you!

Oakton Historic District
The Oakton Historic District is a wonderful place to live. There are people who know nothing about the area who will try to tell you that it is not a good place to live. They are wrong. I live on Dobson and there are 65 children on our block. We have lived there 9 years and have never had any bikes stolen or any other bad things happen. We are in constant contact with each other through a neighborhood chat board and if someone sees something they don't like, they let everyone know.
