Cheap for a reason.
If you have kids in elementary school, don't even consider it.

If your kids are in junior high or high school, Highland Park is a great district.

You know how the uber rich like to hire people to do their dirty work? (I.E. landscaping, maid sevices, etc) Well the people that do that kind of work for the elite all need to live somewhere close to where they work, and that place is Highwood. Nothing against Highwood, or the working class people that make up it's population, but that's why the prices in Highwood are cheap.

Having grown up right next door it has certainly changed over the years. I lived right on Half Day Road just down from Highwood. It was originally a bastion of the Italian community. That gradually started to change a bit with the significant influx of Hispanics. While the strong Italian influence is still quite present, and much of Highwood on the West side of the train tracks (and South of Half Day Rd.) remains largely Italian, the rest is Mexican for the most part. Just be aware of which area you are in for overall best living.
