Hi. I live in Oak Park, IL and I and I am considering taking a job in Northbrook, IL. Does anyone know what the commute times are? I would need to be at work by 8:30am. I could leave anywhere from 5pm-7pm.

Thanks!!

Default Road. Construction. Is. Killing. Commuters.

Although 294 itself is mostly clear it is about the only paved surface that is not being massively resurfaced.

To be absolutely sure that you are onetime for work you basically have to assume a speed of less than 20 mph for large portions of the Eisenhower. That can push AM commute times to over an hour and ride home to about 50% more...

The frustration is the variability. When roads are clear and traffic is moving above the limit than the standard google estimates are valid. Unfortunately you cannot lock in that schedule. Getting in too work is not too bad fro people that do not have to deal with kids and daycare / before school drop off, but even childless folks really have a crummy situation trying to explain why they cannot committ to after work events of any kind some night...

I certainly would factor these things in. I really doubt there is much you can do , and all things considered there are much worse commutes, just do not rely on the unrealstic estimates from the online maps.

I don't suppose the job site is close to the Metra station?

I would consider Narraganset to I-90 to 294 or to Milwaukee and head north.

There is a Metra line that runs between Oak Park and Northbrook? News to me.

I have a few friends in Oak Park who work in Northbrook or Glenview. This what they have told me: The best way to get to 294 would be River Road to Irving Park to 294. I believe the commute would be under an hour, weather issues making it longer.

Not really. Do you have any idea where the closest stop for that line to Northbrook is from Oak Park? Getting to it by bus or car during crap weather would be a nightmare.

I believe the Mayfair station, on Cicero, is closer. There is, of course, the option of riding the UP-west line in then transferring to a Northbound MN train. This option is more economical if you are willing to commit to it for a month, using a monthly ($116.10/month).
