I have heard some many brag about the beefs from Chicago----Mr. Beef and Al's. I have tried Al's on Ontario..didn't like it. I have had much better beef's up north. What is the place near Guitar Center in Arlington Hts? I think it is Johnny's. Have you noticed ever place in Chicagoland is possessive, I love it. Well I live further north and found some good places there to include places in Round Lake Beach--Italian Ovens, O'Lando's and a new place at Hainesville Rd at Washington St.

Tony Luke's has great Italian beef. There is one on Rand Road in Palatine. Portillo's is also good, plenty in the NW burbs. Arlington Heights, Vernon Hills, etc.

What didn't you like about Al's? I regularly eat at the one on Touhy, and I used to frequent the original place in University Village.

Otherwise, Portillo's is consistently excellent, though I haven't eaten there in a long, long time.

I've tried many and al's is #1 in beef, and the sign out front saying so isn't a gimmick

Portillos's beef if you want something that's easy to locate and there are a bunch around. But I am quite the fan of Beefy's 5749 S. Harlem - Chicago. You'll have to venture to the Southwest side

What happened to Carm's Beef? I was sad to see them close the doors in Hillside. They had the BEST beef sandwiches I've ever tried.

My cousin Luigi and his dad, Lou, make THE BEST Italian beef and sausage and it's for sale in large quantities. If you are interested let me know by sending me a direct message and I'll give you details. The best I've had in Chicagoland!
