First, I'm sorry that you underperformed yourself - perhaps if you would've gone to a better high school you would've had different results.

And second, I'm well aware of all the "studies" that show that whites test higher than hispanics, hispanics test higher than blacks and Asians kick everyone's arse.

But I believe that most of it is a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So, no, in a nutshell I'm not going to cut HF slack because the student body has a black majority.

You have to dissect the results by race to compare the two schools fairly. You would just be quantifying sandberg's same white student body results when HF has a sizable black student body percentage also if you were to say that sandberg's results were better. Sandberg's result clearly are not better. Most of sandberg's students are white and sandbergs white student body did not make AYP at a higher rate than HF's white student body. Furthermore HF's Black student body scored higher than any other open enrollment public high school's black student body in the entire chicagoland area. Higher than any other school in entire state from what I can tell.

To act like any of those measures fairly compares the schools makes no sense at all to me. Somehow we have collectively lost our minds when it comes to this topic.

Allen...I scored in the 90th percentile in ALL subjects EVERY YEAR I took standardized tests at majority White school(s). And I am Black...so what is my excuse for doing so well? Is it because I am not African-American, but am the child of African immigrants? Is it because I was just gifted? What is MY excuse for doing well? And don't even say "well you took it in Indiana" because my cousins who go to school in Illinois that go to majority white schools scored high as well...So what is their excuse too?

That sounds like cheating to me considering that there is only 16 percent of sandbergs student body left to account for. The largest portion of which is hispanic. Hispanics at carl sandberg made AYP in reading at a rate of 42.6 percent and math at 42.6 percent also. Lower than hf's white and black population, so that wouldn't change anything. You are just pointing out another flaw in how the results are reported to benefit, or cheat in a way for schools with fewer minorities.
