Most real estate listings have the taxes on there (look on redfin if you don't see it on the site you're using). You can see a 3/2 listed at 180k that has 10k taxes and a 4/3 for 220k that has 8k taxes on the exact same street. Never assume there is a rule as it could cost you dearly.

I have lived in Naperville for 25 years and love every minute of it. I have also bought and sold two homes in Naperville. The best situation for you to be in when buying a home (and at the closing) is that you don't have to sell an existing home or townhome. You will be in the best position for negotiation of price repairs and etc. Don't let short term benefits (tax write off) keep you from seeing the long term benefits of renting and getting your feet on the ground and deciding what part of Naperville you really want to live in. Good luck

Default Naperville rent or buy question

Hi - We have a ranch home near downtown Naperville/close to 88/walking distance from town that will be available mid May /June. Current renter moving out by May 1st. It is a little older than it sounds like you are looking for but is in a nice neighborhood with a large yard, screened porch and patio. My husband and I live about a mile away and have rented it for the past few years. We are looking for a couple or family to enjoy it. Its 3 bedrooms with a full partially finished basement (new walls, new floor, bar)- ideal for storage if you need. You can check it out on "roommates.com" in the Naperville area under "naperhome". We were originally looking for a professional to rent out the whole place (as roommates doesn't give an option for "couple" or "family"). Please let us know what you think. Everyone who has responded to your inquiry have made great points. Please let us know if you have any questions.
