We just moved to the area and do not have any family or friends in this area at all. Is anyone able to advise where are some nice spots to go and have a nice time in the evenings or the weekend? A place where one can go and have a drink, eat, laugh, and dance and have good clean fun. I am looking for something that has a good mixed crowd where people are in thier 30-40's. I'm sorry, but the college crowd and the 20's lifestyle is not us anymore. We are looking for a place where there is more than just elbow room to move around and where we don't have to worry about getting shot up or caught up in a brawl. If they are fighting and shooting every weekend then that is not the place for us. Chicago is nice and has many places but we are not wanting to drive into Chicago. We are looking for some nice clean places around Grayslake area. We are not wanting to make a 40-45min commute.

Evanston is fairly upscale, moreso when the university is not in session. There are quite a few nice restaurants.

Grayslake to Evanston would be about 40 minutes so I'd skip that. There are some wonderful restaurants in Lake Forest but I can't speak for bar life. There are a couple places along Milwaukee in Lincolnshire that are fun including Cubby Bear North and restaurants like Wildfire (not to mention a great movie theater). There are probably some places in Libertyville, too, as there seems to be a pretty big migration of city-folk moving that way and they (we) tend to go where we can still experience "city living" in suburbia. Good luck and have fun!

Naperville offers many places to socialize, some for the college crowd, some for the older crowd. You should also look into Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Oak Brook, Libertyville, Wheaton, Lake Forest, Winnetka, Barrington(s), etc.
