Hell.

I'm next door in Barrington and the drive to Evanston during typical commuting hours is more like 1.5 hours, each way. Add snow or rain and it's absolute hell-o.

I feel like my comment is unnecessary at this point but that is about the worst proposed commute I've ever heard of.

I hope I'm not too late here but this commute, while dreadful, is doable. I actually did Cary to Evanston for almost two years. If you get on the 7:45am train, you can get to Evanston-Davis St. at 9:00am. That's only an hour and fifteen minutes, via the transfer at Clybourn as someone else suggested.

Coming home, the 4:45pm is non stop from Clybourn to Barrington and can be reached via the 4:27pm out of Evanston...

What kind of employment allows you arrive after 9AM and leave before 4:15PM???

Were you paid full time for this?

Yeah I was full-time. I had a data card so I was working on the train too. I'm not saying the OP can ride that pair of trains, although it would be nice if they could...

Another option that would allow for an eight-hour workday would be the 7:01am out of Fox River Grove... that gets you to Clybourn at 7:50am and Evanston-Davis around 8:15am.
