Our kids currently attend a K-8 public elementary school in NJ and we love it. But now my husband is interviewing for job that may transfer us to the Chicago area.

Are there any highly-rated elementary schools that are K-8 in the suburbs of Chicago?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

There are certainly some districts that still have k-8 schools, some are actually in Chicago, which presents high hurdles for relocation.

I know Bannockburn, Kenilworth, Linderhurst, Libertyville, Antioch and Grayslale also have k-8 schools. http://iirc.niu.edu/ListAcdExcellence.aspx

Personally I would NOT rule out any of the EXCELLENT middle schools on that list as many are simply structured to serve only one or tow elementary schools are truly are a fantastic way to build appropriate facilities for kids needs...

There aren't too many k-8 schools on the North Shore that I am aware of. Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth is one of them. Evanston School District 65 has two K-8 Magnet schools, King Lab and Bessie Rhodes.

Yes, Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth is pre-K through 8, and is extremely well-liked by most of the community. Plus, it feeds into the legendary New Trier High School. Kenilworth itself (pop. 2400) is right on the lake, is home to lots of corporate transferees, but also has a charming small-town feel, yet is an easy, easy commute to the city. Here's a page on Kenilworth and local amenities that we posted when we were considering a home exchange a few years ago: Home Exchange -- north suburb of Chicago We're now in the process of putting up our home for sale.

Thanks for the input! Although I do secretly hope we get to stay where we are (we only moved here in October!!), I appreciate having a headstart on schools if and when a move seems in our future.

Great suggestion BUT you need some REALLY DEEP POCKETS to live in Kenilworth or accept living in a REALLY SMALL HOUSE.
